Research Fields:
Prof Chakarvarti initially started his work in the field of Solid State Nuclear track detectors and their applications in early seventies and carried out trace element studies in various materials including environmentally important materials like coal, fly ash, soil water etc. Later he also carried out dielectric relaxation studies in ion irradiated materials and radon detection and estimation in environment. During early nineties, he embarked upon innovative work in the field of Nuclear Track Filters and explored possibility of using them as templates for growing nano-/micro structures, besides nano-/micro devices. He was successful in his stint while he was at Gesellschaft fur Schwerionenforschung (GSI) at Darmstadt, Germany for research as a DAAD Fellow, on Nuclear Track Filters and synthesis of nano-/microstructures via template synthesis. Also visited MPI FUR MIKROSTRUKTURPHYSIK HALLE/SAALE, Germany.c.INSTITUT FUR ANGEWANDTE KERNPHYSIK,CHRISTIAN ALBRECHTS -UNIVERSITAT , OTTO-HAHN PLATZ, Kiel, Germany. Till date, he has been following rigorously research work in this typical field of nano-/micro technology and his work has been recognized in the world scientific community.
Currently,, his interest has been growing mainly in the use of track-etch membranes as PME in hydrogen fuel cells ;multi-junction photo voltaic nano/micro systems; water desalination using nano particles, Micro-Encapsulation Of Therapeutic and fragrant herbal extracts within nano herbal -dyed textile products etc.
